OYSTAR A+F: Tailor-made packing solution integrates all end-of-line packaging process steps

OYSTAR A+F (Kirchlengern) has delivered end-of-line packaging equipment featuring unrivaled flexibility and compactness to Berglandmilch, Austria's leading dairy company. To meet the particular requirements of the customer, a Flexiline module with integrated ABB Flexpicker and the new Traypacker Moduline were combined with a servo-controlled twin-axis gantry module.

OYSTAR A+F was presented with a complex challenge. First, the machine had to be capable of handling Zipp display cartons, wrap-around cartons, and plastic boxes. Furthermore, the customer wanted to have the option of manufacturing two-piece display cartons in the future. The items being packed would be deep-draw trays and soft packaging of different formats, which would be placed in cartons of different sizes.

Technical execution had to integrate all end-of-line packaging process steps: Recognizing and ejecting empty packaging, weighing, seal testing, product grouping, and packing in different cartons or boxes.

The central components of the equipment are a modular packing cell with integrated ABB Flexpacker for feeding and recognizing products, and the new OYSTAR A+F Traypacker Moduline 2.0 for manufacturing wrap-around cartons. Products pregrouped in a stacking shaft are placed into cartons using a servo-controlled twin-axis gantry module.

Beside the modular concept, other key factors that motivated the customer's choice of OYSTAR A+F were the user-friendliness of the equipment and the avoidance of interchange parts wherever possible. This helps to minimize the time associated with adapting the machine to accommodate the frequent format changes that are required. Like all of OYSTAR A+F's equipment, this machine is also suitable for use in the dairy's wet area. This is made possible by using predominantly rustproof materials and incorporating central, protected valve clusters.
